Athoor is a beautiful village in the Dindigul District of Central Tamil Nadu with around 5000 inhabitants who are mostly farmers. Besides paddy cultivation, coconut groves and mango tree orchards are seen everywhere. The village is on the slope of the Western Ghats, one of the most bio-rich regions in the world. Kamarajar Sagar Dam and Lake are situated in the west part of the village and the Kodaganar River runs through the village to join the Kaveri River.
Sadayandi Temple situated in the hill caves close by attracts over 50,000 pilgrims in the festival season in July/August every year, connected to the appearance of new moon. There is also a beautiful old Catholic Church in the village.
